About Outpost Campers
Outpost Campers grew out of San Juan Vans, a custom Sprinter campervan shop that the same tight-knit Bayfield, Colorado team had been running for years. When founder and team decided to build the truck camper they actually wanted for their own trips, they started from scratch with a set of priorities that looked different from the traditional RV industry playbook: no propane, no wood in the structure, no compromise on insulation, and enough battery power to run an induction cooktop and compressor fridge for days without hookups.
The result, launched in summer 2024, is the Outpost 6.5. The shell is built from 1 5/8-inch structural insulated panels with a PET foam core made from 100 percent recycled plastic and composite skins, bonded by aluminum extrusions that eliminate thermal bridging at the seams. The domestically sourced panels are stiffer and lighter than what most competitors use, and they carry a three-year structural warranty. The standard electrical system is an EcoFlow Independence Kit delivering 5 kWh of heated lithium iron phosphate capacity, a 3,600-watt inverter, dual MPPT solar charge controllers, and a 60-amp DC-DC charger. A 250-watt roof panel comes stock; a second 250-watt panel and a 400-watt portable are both available options. There is no propane anywhere in the rig: cooking is induction, heat is an optional Espar diesel unit.
The 6.5 is the company's only production model today, and that single-product focus shows in the details. Cabinetry is primarily powder-coated aluminum, a choice that costs more but eliminates the moisture absorption and flex that plagues wood-framed builds. The dinette converts to a second sleeping surface, a queen-size mattress sits over the cab in an east-west orientation, and the floor holds two large storage hatches. In 2026 Truck Camper Adventure named it Truck Camper of the Year, and Truck Camper Magazine readers voted it Best Hard Side Truck Camper of 2025, unusual recognition for a brand less than two years old.

Cons
